Hello! Let me introduce myself, my name is Jerri and I live in Northwest Arkansas. I have a passion for creating handmade traditional patchwork quilts and I would like to share them with you.
I am the Mother of two grown children; Craig and Lisa, Mother-in-law of one; Leslie, and Grunny to five Grandchildren; Sean, Kelley, A.J., Cody and Ashley.
I have been quilting for over twenty years, but, my love of creating with fabrics started in childhood. My earliest memories are of making sure I had the "best dressed" doll on the block! I would cut my patterns out of newspaper, (that's the way my Grandmother did it!), sew them on a Singer treadle machine and enhance them with embroidery. I made my first garment at age ten for my 4-H clothing project. My Grandmother and I went to the local grain elevator and selected feed sacks. I've been sewing ever since!
I love to try new patterns, fabrics and notions, but, being an "ole fashioned" girl at heart, I have a fondness for the traditional handmade patchwork quilts. I especially like the 1930's reproduction fabrics. I don't limit myself to using those, but I do like them. The whole process of deciding, designing and creating a quilt is a new challenge and adventure each time!
I earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Home Economics Education and a Masters of Science Degree in Consumer Science. I served as Grayson County Extension Agent with The Texas Cooperative Extension Service, Texas A&M University for 31 years. I've taught many adult and youth quilt classes, judged local and county quilt shows, was instrumental in organizing Grayson County Fair Quilt Division and Quilt Makers Quilt Guild. I've even taken home a few Blue Ribbons! For years I have made quilts for family and friends, but, mostly for my own enjoyment. Due to encouragement from my son, I decided to build an internet business focusing on handmade traditional patchwork bedsize quilts, baby and crib quilts and quilted wall hangings. Having a good sense of humor, my friend, Sandra and I have laughingly remarked, "quilting is like a disease, it's not fatal...but is chronic"! Thus, the name, MY QUILT DISEASE.
I want to THANK my friends and family for all of their help and encouragement during the development stages of this project. Craig, for your belief in me and for your PATIENCE, photography and computer skills. I Thank my GOD for giving me this talent and passion to share with others. "Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart's desires".Psalm 37:4
